The session was offered both in-person and simulcast on the web via Learning Times. It was attended by approximately 200 people, and there were approximately 30 online attendees. The panel had decided to do the session as a round table, rather than as separate presentations. The presentation was well received, and the panel received many favourable comments. The presentation organizing committee was very pleased both with the turn out and how the session unfolded. The main topics covered by the panel were: Planning for PD, Prioritizing your PD, Creating Engaging Learning Experiences, Online Tools for PD, and Future Trends. Each panelist spoke on each topic, and we provided a number of opportunities for members of the audience to share their experiences and ask questions. The panelists are planning on re-convening on Learning Times in the early fall, to extend the discussion further. We asked any interested presentation attendees to leave their cards with us, and they will be invited to attend once a date has been established. As the sole librarian on the panel which was comprised of an instructional designer, the founder of Learning Times, an organization which delivers online learning opportunities, and a staff person from the Association of College and Research Libraries, this presentation provided me with the opportunity to not only share my experiences, but to learn about new technologies and techniques that I can deploy in training for my staff.en
I was invited to present at this conference by the Program Planning Committee of the Distance Learning Section of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL), ALA. The program will be on Saturday June 28th at 1:30-3:30, and program information can be found here: http://www.ala.org/ala/eventsandconferencesb/annual/2008a/AN08-prelimprogs-frisat.pdf. While I have not as yet prepared a presentation or abstract, a brief summary of my presentation is below. The provision of online training and professional development opportunities for staff who serve on Library information/circulation desks can be challenging, particularly in an environment where budgets are small and opportunities for training are provided miles away. This presentation will focus on the provision of online training for auditory learners.en
